The Kasseler Blende is a conceptual interpretation of traditional pit lights, which were used in underground mining from the 17th century onwards. The lamp is taken out of the mining context and transferred into contemporary living situations. What was once a workplace light now becomes an ambient light. The luminant in its conventional sense vanishes – what remains is an illuminated chamber in play with translucency and opacity.
